Managing Overlay Templates
Caricature Studio
includes tools to effectively manage your novelty overlay
templates. This makes it much easier and faster to navigate to, and
apply an overlay template from a sorted list, instead of
scrolling through thumbnails to locate the desired overlay. Why is
this important? For the average home user the default setting
generally work fine, however in an event vending scenario, you may
have 200 or more templates to choose from. Selecting from thumbnail
previews would not be efficient, because the goal
is to service your customers as quickly as possible and avoid
long wait times.
Overlay templates are located
in:
Program Files\Caricature
Studio 5.0\Clipart\Templates\Overlays
Within the Overlays
folder, the directory that populates the thumbnail preview area is
the Default folder. Any image file within the
Default folder will populate the thumbnail preview pane. You can
further organize your templates into additional sub-folders. This
is useful because you can organize overlay templates by type, such
as holiday, theme or scenario and load them into the preview
pane at will.
For instance, in this example we've
organized our overlay templates info theme groups.
Remember that the
Default folder loads into the preview pane when
the Overlays function is launched. Use this directory for the
templates you access most frequently. You can store all of your
templates in the Default directory if desired, just remember that
all overlays in this folder will populate the preview panel.
Load One Template, Or Many
To load a folder
into the preview pane, simply select the Load
Templates button at the bottom of the Overlays
function window and choose the folder you'd like to load.
Or....
To apply a single
template, select it from the dropdown field. This field
contains all of the files in all of the folders located within the
Overlays directory.
Useful Tip: File
names in the dropdown list are sorted numerically and
alphabetically. You can control how images are sorted by preceding
template names with a number (see example above). This is
especially useful in event vending scenarios, as you can name and
catalog your templates by number. By numbering your sample
images, your customers can select by number, allowing you
to apply the desired overlay very quickly by selecting it from
the dropdown.
Importing New Templates
To add new overlay templates:
- Select Tools > Import
Templates
- Browse to the folder containing the
templates you'd like to import and click OK
- If the templates you are importing
are transparent overlay images, select Yes when
prompted. This automatically places the folder within the Overlays
directory and populates the dropdown list with the file names. If
the template files are not transparent overlay images, select
No to place the folder within the
Clipart/Templates folder.
